Welch’s is a renowned American company best known for its grape juices, jams, and jellies, particularly those made from dark Concord and white Niagara grapes. Founded in 1869 by dentist Thomas Bramwell Welch in Vineland, New Jersey, the company pioneered the pasteurization of grape juice to create an unfermented, non-alcoholic alternative for church communion, which quickly became popular during the temperance movement. Since 1956, Welch’s has been owned by the National Grape Cooperative Association, a cooperative of over 1,300 grape growers from the United States and Ontario, Canada.
